Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes has ordered to block the financial accounts of Elon Musk’s Starlink amidst a feud that threatens Musk’s social media platform X in the country. Starlink has received the order and will address it legally. The decision comes as there are no legal representatives in Brazil for the X social network, leading to the sanctions against Starlink. Musk has criticized de Moraes, calling him a criminal for his actions.
De Moraes had previously ordered Musk to appoint a legal representative for X in Brazil or face suspension. X had announced closure in Brazil due to censorship orders by de Moraes and accusations of threatening their legal representatives. De Moraes has been cracking down on misinformation and ordered the suspension of over 100 X accounts, mainly belonging to supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Musk has accused de Moraes of censorship and disrespecting free speech, while de Moraes has accused Musk of spreading disinformation and disrespecting Brazil’s sovereignty. The ongoing feud highlights the tensions between the tech billionaire and the Brazilian judge. The situation has escalated, with Starlink facing financial sanctions and potential disruption of its services in Brazil. As the legal battle continues, the future of X in the country remains uncertain.
