In an unusual discovery, employees at Meadows Family Fun Mini Golf in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, found a groundhog hiding amongst the stuffed prizes inside a claw machine at the venue. Instead of a stuffed animal, a live woodland creature had somehow made its way into the arcade game, prompting officials from the Pennsylvania Game Commission to step in for a rescue.
State Game Warden Salvadore Zaffuto was called to the scene to safely remove the groundhog from the machine. Groundhogs, which can weigh up to 11 pounds, are known for their speed and ability to climb trees, making this particular rescue mission quite unexpected.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission shared the odd rescue story on Instagram, jokingly suggesting that the groundhog should stick to playing the game with tokens next time, rather than trying to cheat to win the prize. The vending machine company was summoned to unlock the machine so the groundhog could be returned to its natural habitat unharmed.
The amusing incident caught the attention of local residents and animal enthusiasts alike, showcasing the unexpected encounters that can occur in everyday settings. The Pennsylvania Game Commission did not provide further details on how the groundhog ended up in the claw machine but assured followers that the animal was safely rescued and released back into the wild.
