37 Evacuated from New York City Ferry After Fire Erupts

About 37 passengers were evacuated from a New York City ferry boat after a fire broke out onboard while the “Father Mychal Judge” ferry boat was moving along the Hudson River by Jersey City. The fire started around 4:40 p.m. and first responders quickly transported the passengers to safety on a separate vessel. Luckily, no injuries were reported as a result of the blaze and the fire was extinguished soon after. The ferry boat was taken back to the port after the incident.

Cary Broder, a passenger on the ferry, shared his experience of the frightening incident where he considered jumping into the water as he saw orange flames shooting out of the back of the boat. Despite the scare, he remains committed to taking the ferry as it saves him an hour from his commute to work. Broder mentioned feeling panicked during the evacuation process but only realized afterward that his bike was still onboard. The ferry company, New York Waterway, has not yet commented on the incident. Videos of the passengers evacuating the smoky ferry have been shared on various news outlets, capturing the chaotic scene during the evacuation process.
