Rookie quarterback Drake Maye led the New England Patriots to two of their three scoring drives in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, ultimately resulting in a close 14-13 loss for the Patriots. Maye’s performance was solid, with a touchdown run and 6 of 11 completions for 47 yards. The Patriots also saw field goals from Joey Slye, who is competing for the starting job.
Despite a strong start, the Patriots let the lead slip in the fourth quarter when the Eagles made a comeback with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye saw playing time for the Patriots, with Brissett struggling and Maye impressing the crowd at Gillette Stadium.
Philadelphia opted to rest starting QB Jalen Hurts for the second straight preseason game, giving Kenny Pickett the majority of snaps. The Eagles struggled to find the end zone, relying on field goals from Jake Elliott for their points.
The game also saw several injuries, including to Eagles OL Tyler Steen and Patriots WR JaQuae Jackson. Looking forward, the Eagles will host the Minnesota Vikings in their preseason finale, while the Patriots will travel to Washington for their next matchup. Overall, the game provided valuable experience for both teams as they continue to prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
