Qatar’s Intelligence Chief Honored with CIA Award for Security Cooperation

Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Khulaifi, the chief of Qatar’s State Security Agency, has been honored by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with the George Tenet medal for his contributions to enhancing intelligence collaboration between the two nations. CIA Director Bill Burns presented the award to al-Khulaifi, recognizing his efforts in maintaining national and regional security and providing exceptional support to the US agency in safeguarding the interests of both countries. The close cooperation between Qatar and the US in counterterrorism efforts has been instrumental in preventing and thwarting threats and attacks in the Middle East.

The relationship between Qatar and the US dates back decades, with Qatar hosting the US Air Force base at Al-Udeid. The award comes at a time when the two countries continue to work together on various security and intelligence initiatives. While both the CIA and Qatar’s State Security Agency have yet to make an official statement regarding al-Khulaifi’s award, sources indicate that the recognition highlights the ongoing partnership between the two allies.

George Tenet, for whom the medal is named, served as the CIA chief for nearly eight years and played a key role in leading military incursions into Afghanistan and Iraq during his tenure. The award symbolizes the importance of intelligence cooperation in addressing global security challenges and reflects the commitment of both Qatar and the US to working together to enhance regional stability.
