Former President Donald Trump held a press conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club where he attacked Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris, claiming she “broke the world” and was a failed “border czar”. Trump repeated false claims of a rigged 2020 election, accused Harris of wanting to defund the police and turn the US into a “communist-type country”. He said he was entitled to personal attacks on Harris due to not having respect for her. The conference lasted over an hour and a half, and Trump also commented on his assassination attempt last month, calling it a “miracle” and suggesting it was due to a divine purpose.
The press conference resembled one of Trump’s rally speeches, as he repeated many lies and falsehoods that appeal to his base. Trump used the conference as an opportunity to get free press coverage, as he did during his time as president. He has been criticized for resorting to personal attacks and baseless allegations against Harris, presenting a false narrative of her intentions and policies.
Trump also claimed that Harris was far more radical than Bernie Sanders and that she wanted to turn the US into a communist country. He accused her of destroying California during her time as attorney general and made false claims about the state’s laws. Trump used inflammatory language and fearmongering tactics in his attacks on Harris, suggesting that she would be a disastrous president if elected.
