The war between Ukraine and Russia has entered its 902nd day, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claiming that Ukrainian forces are advancing in the Russian region of Kursk and have gained control of 1,000 square kilometres of Russian territory. However, Moscow disputes this, saying that Ukraine only controls half of what they claim and has thwarted further advances into the region.
Ukraine has also conducted air strikes on Russian military airfields in Voronezh, Kursk, and Nizhny Novgorod, targeting fuel stores and weapons. These attacks have resulted in casualties, including two medics killed in a drone attack in the Kharkiv region and two people injured in a missile strike on port infrastructure in Odesa.
On the diplomatic front, Germany has issued a European arrest warrant for a Ukrainian diving instructor allegedly involved in the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines in 2022. Additionally, hackers linked to Russian intelligence are targeting critics of the Kremlin and Western diplomats with phishing emails. Russia has also launched thousands of cases against individuals accused of discrediting the army since the invasion began.
Poland has formally indicted Pavel Rubtsov, known as Pablo Gonzalez, on espionage charges. He was part of a prisoner swap between Russia and the West last month. China has discussed the conflict with Pope Francis’s special envoy on Ukraine.
The situation continues to be tense and evolving, with both military and diplomatic developments shaping the course of the conflict.
