It is still possible to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict through the two-state solution.

The recent landmark ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on July 19 has called for an immediate end to Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid rule in the Palestinian territories. The ruling reinforces the pathway to peace, advocating for a sovereign State of Palestine within the context of a two-state solution.

According to the ICJ, Israel must withdraw from all occupied Palestinian territory, cease settlement activities, evacuate settlers, and pay damages. This decision emphasizes that the end of the occupation is not dependent on a bilateral peace process between Israel and Palestine.

The ruling has been seen as a victory for the rights of the Palestinian people who have suffered decades of oppression. It also challenges the stance of the United States, which has insisted on Israel’s agreement on a political settlement as a condition for ending the occupation.

The British government, donors in the US, EU countries and UN agencies share a common understanding of Israel’s refusal to agree to a fair settlement.

The ICJ’s decision underlines that the two-state solution is a matter of international law, and diplomatic negotiations should focus on implementing Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territory and establishing mutual security arrangements between both states.

There is a growing international consensus for ending the illegal occupation and securing a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The world community stands in support of justice, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign State of Palestine with the borders of June 4, 1967, and its capital in East Jerusalem. Peace is seen as achievable with the unity of the Palestinian people, backing from Arab and Islamic states, and adherence to international law and UN resolutions. The US and Israeli governments must recognize the need for a just and lasting peace to avoid further escalation and destabilization in the region.
