Former FBI agent and Alabama state trooper Christopher Bauer, 45, was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of first-degree sodomy and sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age. District Attorney Daryl Bailey described Bauer as a “depraved monster” who used his power to harm a vulnerable child. An Associated Press investigation revealed that Bauer used a forged letter to join the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to conceal his history of sexual assault allegations while working at the FBI. The Bureau had no comment on Bauer’s sentencing, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency did not respond to requests for comment.
The victim, who had been sexually assaulted by Bauer since she was 5 years old, disclosed the abuse to a friend in April 2021. The friend’s mother reported it to the victim’s school, which led to the Montgomery Police Department launching an investigation and Bauer’s subsequent arrest. Bauer is also wanted on similar charges in Louisiana.
Public defenders listed as representing Bauer did not offer immediate comments on the case. Bauer’s crimes highlight the devastating impact of individuals abusing their positions of power and trust. The sentencing serves as a reminder of the need for accountability and justice for victims of sexual assault, especially when the perpetrator is someone who is supposed to protect and uphold the law.
