Brian Hess, a longtime bowler from Millersville, was recently inducted into the Pennsylvania State United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at Harrisburg’s Red Lion Hotel on July 13. With a career spanning over half a century, Hess has achieved numerous accolades in the sport, including 19 perfect games, 16 800 series, and an average above 200. He credits his success to mentors like Scott Ulmer and the late Gary Brooks, who inspired him to excel in bowling.
Hess has won 11 county tournament titles, three Pennsylvania State USBC Open titles, and six Pennsylvania State USBC Senior Tournament titles. One of his most memorable victories was the Pennsylvania State USBC scratch doubles title in 1985. In 2014, Hess and his team set a tournament record score of 3811 to win the PA State USBC Scratch and Handicap Team title.
Aside from his accomplishments on the lanes, Hess has been actively involved in the bowling community for decades. He has served on the Lancaster USBC Association’s board of directors since 1989 and is currently the first vice president. Hess also serves as a director for the Pennsylvania State USBC, further contributing to the sport he loves.
Despite his many achievements, Hess finds the most joy in sharing the sport with his wife, Terri. Bowling has been a lifelong passion for him, and he continues to find fulfillment through tournament travel and the friendships he has made in the bowling community. Hess’s induction into the Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor that recognizes his dedication and contributions to the sport of bowling.
