Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer made a joint appearance in Ambler to rally support for Vice President Kamala Harris, who is in the process of selecting a running mate for the 2024 election. The event drew over a thousand supporters to Wissahickon High School. There have been rumors that Shapiro is under consideration for the vice presidential nomination following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election. Shapiro emphasized the importance of defeating Trump and highlighted Harris’ readiness for the job.
Shapiro also criticized the Project 2025, a controversial conservative plan that aims to make significant policy changes in the federal government, including abolishing diversity programs and disbanding the Department of Education. The plan has drawn criticism for its far-right agenda and potential negative impact on marginalized communities. Shapiro’s political background and record of success have positioned him as a strong candidate for the vice presidency.
The Harris campaign is currently vetting several potential running mates, including Shapiro, Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, Governor J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, and Cedric Richmond, a former congressman from Louisiana. The Democratic National Convention is approaching, where the party’s delegates will ultimately decide on a candidate to challenge former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. The campaign is looking for a running mate who can appeal to a diverse range of voters and help secure the necessary support to defeat Trump.
