According to a new Fox News poll, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are tied in the swing states of Michigan and Pennsylvania. Another poll by Emerson College found the two tied in four out of five battleground states. In Michigan, both polls show Trump leading Harris by a small margin, while in Pennsylvania, they are tied. In Wisconsin, Trump leads Harris by one point in the Fox News poll, while they are tied in the Emerson poll. In Georgia, Trump is ahead by two points, and in Arizona, Harris is down by five points.
The Emerson poll also revealed that voters in swing states prefer vice presidential contenders who currently represent their states. Names on Harris’ reported shortlist, such as Senator Mark Kelly in Arizona and Governor Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania, are popular choices among Democratic voters.
Following Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Harris, she is now the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. However, Harris enters the race with a lower approval rating, less than 40%, and has limited time to familiarize voters with herself before the general election on November 5.
National polls show Harris narrowing Trump’s lead over Biden, but Trump is still ahead in most surveys by a narrow margin. Real Clear Politics’ polling average shows Trump leading Harris by 1.7 points, a 1.6-point bump for Trump since the debate between Biden and Harris. This data indicates a close race between Trump and Harris leading up to the election.
