A man was fatally shot by police officers near the Cranberry Heights Golf Course in Butler County, Pennsylvania on Tuesday. The incident began around 10:30 a.m. when Cranberry Township Police were called for a suspicious man who had stopped his vehicle near the golf course entrance. The man, later identified as Logan Cumberland, 37, of Ellwood City, was armed with a rifle and left before police arrived. Officers found the vehicle with firearms inside but could not locate the suspect.
At approximately 3 p.m., officers located Cumberland in a wooded area near the golf course and fatally shot him. No officers were injured during the confrontation. The Pennsylvania State Police Aviation Unit and other police departments responded to the scene. State Police and the Butler County District Attorney’s office are investigating the incident.
