Florida Teen Faces Federal Charges for Threatening Mass Shooting on Thanksgiving

Nineteen-year-old Robert Trout III, from Florida, is facing federal charges after posting a video on Instagram threatening a mass shooting in New York City on Thanksgiving. In the video, Trout displayed multiple firearms and threatened to cause havoc on the subway by shooting anybody he sees on Thanksgiving evening.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that Trout allegedly displayed two semiautomatic guns with extended clips containing a total of 60 bullets during his Instagram rant and stated, “that’s 60 shots – that’s sixty people dead.”

Federal officials were able to identify Trout as the person of interest with the help of witness statements and recent posts on Trout’s Instagram account, which have since been removed. Trout appeared in federal court in Tampa and was ordered to be held without bail pending his next court appearance on December 18.

If convicted, Trout faces up to five years behind bars. This incident comes after Trout was previously accused of threatening a school shooting in a group chat. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of taking threats of violence seriously, and the potential consequences of making such threats. The New York City Police Department has not made an official statement regarding the incident.
